Garden Design Process
Some clients use every part of the design journey, others only certain parts. That’s fine with us, and it all starts with a friendly conversation and develops from there.
Initial Consultation and Proposal
The priority during our initial garden design consultation is to listen to you and get a good understanding of your aspirations and needs for the garden, as well as get a feel for the existing space. It is not always necessary to undertake visits if, for instance, the space is straightforward and you supply good photos or plans. Initial visits outside of Buckinghamshire may incur a small charge (subject to location). This is refundable if we are appointed to carry out the design.
Following the initial meeting, the design brief is confirmed in writing, along with an indication of design fees. Our proposals are based on the Landscape Institute and RIBA Stages of work, and each stage is explained in the document. Each stage is payable on completion before moving on to the next. We will advise on the need for surveys to be undertaken.
Master Planning
We go through 2 key stages of master planning, concept and developed design to arrive at a layout that truly meets the brief. We will typically include 2D plans, sketch views and mood boards. We welcome your feedback throughout the design process and once approved, we move into detailed design.
Planting Design
We offer standalone planting design or integrate it into a whole project. Plans include species, locations, names, sizes, and quantities, with a mood boards to visualise the look. James ensures on-site setup is perfect, making adjustments as needed. James can also procure and quote to provide planting at a competitive rate.
Detailed Drawings
We can produce detailed drawings to aid construction and costing. This can include full tender package information and specifications or just the odd detail, Following the tender stage, we can also produce construction issue drawings to capture any changes during the tender process and adjustments that may be required on-site or as part of budget constraints.
Using your garden
Monitoring the construction works independently on your behalf is an essential part of our process. We ensure your vision becomes a reality by checking the quality of workmanship and providing detailed snagging reports at the project’s end, guaranteeing you receive the product you have paid for.
Once the garden is finished and the contractor departs, you can begin to enjoy your investment. However, this is just the beginning of the journey. It is crucial to revisit the garden at regular intervals over the first few years. Editing the garden is a key aspect of the review process, and we can offer advice and tips to help you maximise your investment.
